Wednesdayitis - 5th August

I got the latest issue of CREATIVE in the mail yesterday. I drooled all over it.
The design issue is amazing. I know, I say amazing a lot. But honestly. I was sitting on my couch turning the pages in awe. It has a great backchat feature from John Matthews discussing the potentially detrimental effects The Gruen Transfer has had on the advertising industry that I found really interesting. Anyway, if you're into advertising it is a must see.

I had a bit of an epiphany today and realised that I kind of grew up with a little career crush on retail. My grandma was the whole floor manager of Pick n Pay (For those not in the know I would say, kind of like, Big W or Target with groceries too) for the majority of my childhood. These were the days pre-Coles takeover where the store was super family orientated - I'm talking family christmas parties with giant slides, facepaint and santa giving away sweet toys. I went to work with my Grandma a lot as a kid. Everyone knew my name, I got free lollies and I got extra time in the toys section (Being able to play unlimited nintendo 64 as a kid was everyone's dream). This is what I blame my obsession with retail on.

I am a sucker for retail marketing. Give me an up and coming designer and I will watch them blossom with eager anticipation. I love seeing a company grow and evolve to the point where a 30 second spot actually does their brand justice. Although it's not an up and coming company, rather a national powerhouse, I do realyl love Myer's seasonal campaigns. Summer 09 is perhaps my fav.

*sigh* Isn't it adorable?

Wednesdayitis - 15th July

New Zealand may be in the middle of no where but the serenity must be what makes the nation's creatives' so damn creative. Check out this billboard for NZ Road Safety. It's AMAZING!

Wednesdayitis - 8th July

I'm a huge fan of ambient advertising. It is often more clever, captivating and out of the box than it's conventional counterparts (Such as Radio, TV and Print) and it gets a lot of attention as a result. I especially love this campaign for a US basketball team. It engages viewers despite ethnicity, age or even their views on basketball. Love It!!

Wednesdayitis - 1st July

This ad makes me smile everytime I watch it. It gets the message across in a manner that cuts through and grabs the audiences attention without shoving the pitch down the consumers throat. I wish I could be as talented as this Creative Team. :)

In other Ad news - The boy got 68% for a final assessment we did together at the last minute! Yay for passing!

Wednesdayitis - 24th June

I have been aching to do a photo and art arrangement in my room but I'm struggling to decide if I would like to go with neat / matching frames or a messy ensemble. What are everyone's thoughts? :)

Wednesdayitis - 29th April

This completely inspires me and makes me feel like maybe, just maybe, there's hope for creative advertising afterall...

In other news frankie came out whilst I was away. I was delighted to pick up my copy when I got to work yesterday. Ahhh, if only it was monthly. *sigh*

Wednesdayitis - 1st April

Wow. Very first wednesdayitis. Inpiring me at the moment:

Agency: Y&R, Toronto / Canada

So simple it could be done by just about any salon world wide. Ingenious. I love everyday pieces like this that just work.

Agency: Saatchi & Saatchi / South Africa

I know that the old PG team are a little bit on the, how will I say, sterile side when it comes to advertising their products. I am thinking along the veins of "The Australian Hair Institute (a made up foundation composing of one researcher that is on our books) says that Head and Shoulders is the leading product in Australia to strengthen and protect your hair".

This on the other hand is great. Saatchi and Saatchi did an awesome job. Love it.

Agency: Energy BBDO, Chicago / USA

Brutally honest, manly and blunt. Perfection.
