I'm off to the Ekka tomorrow and am VERY excited. This year is going to be a big one - It's the last year of the show bag pavillion and the iconic chair lift (above) before they are demolished to make way for RNA redevelopments.
I love the Ekka. I am a huge kid at heart so I am in my element. Can't wait to scoff my face with fairy floss, dagwood dogs and terrible show bag lollies. Expect lots and lots of lomos next week. :)
I got the latest issue of CREATIVE in the mail yesterday. I drooled all over it.
The design issue is amazing. I know, I say amazing a lot. But honestly. I was sitting on my couch turning the pages in awe. It has a great backchat feature from John Matthews discussing the potentially detrimental effects The Gruen Transfer has had on the advertising industry that I found really interesting. Anyway, if you're into advertising it is a must see.
I had a bit of an epiphany today and realised that I kind of grew up with a little career crush on retail. My grandma was the whole floor manager of Pick n Pay (For those not in the know I would say, kind of like, Big W or Target with groceries too) for the majority of my childhood. These were the days pre-Coles takeover where the store was super family orientated - I'm talking family christmas parties with giant slides, facepaint and santa giving away sweet toys. I went to work with my Grandma a lot as a kid. Everyone knew my name, I got free lollies and I got extra time in the toys section (Being able to play unlimited nintendo 64 as a kid was everyone's dream). This is what I blame my obsession with retail on.
I am a sucker for retail marketing. Give me an up and coming designer and I will watch them blossom with eager anticipation. I love seeing a company grow and evolve to the point where a 30 second spot actually does their brand justice. Although it's not an up and coming company, rather a national powerhouse, I do realyl love Myer's seasonal campaigns. Summer 09 is perhaps my fav.
I love her to pieces. I really am not normally into that kind of stuff (Yup I realise I just sounded about eighty), but I do adore Miss Sovereign. I love the attitude. The I really don't care if you hate my style vibe is so refreshing.
She's quite possibly the only reason I would go to Parklife. Love the indian stripes in "I Got You Dancing" and the rest of her Jigsaw album makes me wanna move. Perfect for the Gym. :) xo
Found! The ever so cute Golden Half camera. I am in love. 1 frame = 2 shots, 24 exp roll film = 48 shots / 24 ickle "Micro stories"
The Boy got one last weekend and we haven't had a chance to play yet but I am thinking by the look of this flikr pool we are going to have tonnes of fun!
I love news articles like this. Apparently to solve the issue of the origin of the lamington the Ipswich lord mayor funnelled a bit of coin into making the worlds largest lamington.
This bad boy contains 230 litres of water, 200 litres of egg, 535 kilograms of sponge mix, 75 kilograms of rasplum jam, 75 kilograms of lamington mix and 68 kilograms of coconut. Global Financial Crisis? Swine Flu? Jakarta Bombings? Forget-aboud-em with a giant lamo. Now to find a lunch box big enough to cart it to work in.
P.S. For those not in the know - A Lamington is basically sponge cake, covered in chocolate icing/topping and then smothered in coconut. It sounds atrocious but it is honestly the best thing to come out of Australia. (Even better than Vegemite!)
A quick one this TILT. I love love love David Fullarton's office series of works. Check them out. Right now. He actually displayed them in a workplace. What a champ. :)
Also, it's the boy's and mine anniversay today (well a monthly one anyway - hahaha). So I guess I love him too. Happy anniversary babe. xox
The boy and I have been together for a few years now and he has really become the person I rely on and I think maybe, I should tell him this a little more. I think I'll write him a couple of post its this week. Sometimes the simple surprises are the best ones. :)
With the rash of bad things occuring (The bestie, A relation being told she has 48 hours to live and the boy having dental dramas - that's 3 bad things, means I have been allocated all the bad luck I can have right?) I have really been pushed into taking stock of the great things in my life. I have a good job, a loving family, hopes and dreams.
I don't want this blog to be a negative corner of the blogosphere so here's a lil collection of lovely etsy bits and pieces that have brightened my day. :) Chins up everyone. It's a beautiful day.
